This activity invites young people to explore themes of identity, gender equality, tolerance, and inclusion through a creative and reflective process centred on the development of a digital magazine. It provides a structured yet open space where participants can question, express, and redefine their understanding of themselves and others in relation to the social, cultural, and political contexts they are part of.

ID Art Lab: Exploring Identity & Belonging
This activity invites young people to explore themes of identity, gender equality, tolerance, and inclusion through a creative and reflective process centred on the development of a digital magazine. It provides a structured yet open space where participants can question, express, and redefine their understanding of themselves and others in relation to the social, cultural, and political contexts they are part of.
In contemporary societies, young people are increasingly exposed to diverse identities, perspectives, and expectations, while at the same time facing persistent stereotypes, discrimination, and social pressures. Many experience a sense of not being fully heard or represented within traditional systems. This activity responds to this gap by offering an alternative platform where their voices, experiences, and viewpoints can be explored and made visible.
Through engagement with topics such as gender roles, social norms, belonging, intersectionality, and diversity, participants are encouraged to critically reflect on how identities are constructed and negotiated. The process supports them in recognising both personal experiences and structural dimensions of inequality, fostering a deeper understanding of how inclusion and exclusion operate in everyday life.
The digital magazine acts as both a creative framework and a space for dialogue. It enables participants to transform reflection into expression, combining personal storytelling with broader social perspectives. By bringing together different voices, backgrounds, and viewpoints, the magazine becomes a collective narrative that reflects the diversity of the group while highlighting common challenges and shared aspirations.
At the same time, the activity strengthens participants’ sense of ownership and agency. By contributing to a shared product, young people experience their ideas as valuable and impactful. The process encourages active participation, collaboration, and mutual learning, reinforcing the idea that everyone has a voice and a role in shaping more inclusive and equitable societies.
Ultimately, this activity goes beyond content creation. It creates a meaningful learning experience in which young people can explore identity as a dynamic and evolving process, engage in constructive dialogue on equality and inclusion, and develop a stronger sense of connection both to themselves and to others.
Participants will:
This activity contributes to both individual and collective transformation. On an individual level, participants are empowered to better understand themselves, express their identities, and engage more confidently with issues related to equality and inclusion. They develop a stronger sense of agency and feel more equipped to challenge stereotypes and discrimination in their daily lives.
On a group level, the activity fosters a culture of openness, respect, and dialogue. It strengthens connections among participants and promotes empathy by creating space for diverse perspectives to be shared and acknowledged.
On a broader level, the digital magazine serves as a visible and tangible outcome that amplifies youth voices. It can be shared with peers, communities, and stakeholders, contributing to raising awareness and encouraging wider discussions on identity, equality, and inclusion. In this way, the activity extends its impact beyond the immediate group and supports the promotion of more inclusive and equitable societies.
