Youth Exchange – Inclusive Society: An Experiential Art LAB

Youth Exchange: Inclusive Societies: An Experiential Art Lab

This workshop invites young people to explore the idea of an inclusive society through creative and immersive artistic practices. Using video, performance, and visual art, participants examine how identity, culture, and personal experience shape the way we see one another. Art becomes a space where hidden stories, emotions, and perspectives can surface, allowing participants to question stereotypes and better understand diversity.

Through collaborative creation and reflection, the group experiments with different artistic languages: performance to embody empathy, visual art to reimagine symbols of belonging, and video to capture and share personal narratives. These activities encourage open dialogue and help participants recognise both the differences and common ground within the group.

What's about...

“Inclusive Societies: An Experiential Art-Lab”

Co-creating new narratives of belonging through video, performance and visual expression.

Inclusive societies do not emerge by accident—they are created through dialogue, empathy, and the courage to see the world through someone else’s perspective. This workshop uses the power of the arts to explore what inclusion truly means in our everyday lives. Drawing on video art, performance, and visual expression, participants engage with the core idea that diversity is not simply a fact, but a value that we actively shape together.

Art is an ideal tool for this exploration because it makes visible what is often hidden: emotions, assumptions, and the unspoken barriers that influence how we relate to others. Through immersive experiences—such as performative storytelling, visual experimentation, and collaborative video pieces—participants are invited to reflect on their own identities and the realities of people from different cultural, social, and personal backgrounds.

The workshop creates a safe, creative space where young people can question stereotypes, discover shared experiences, and imagine new ways of living together. Each artistic medium opens a different door:

  • Performance encourages embodiment and empathy;
  • Visual arts provide reflection, symbolism, and reinterpretation;
  • Video allows participants to frame stories, amplify voices, and construct new narratives of belonging.

By the end, participants will have co-created a small collection of artistic outputs that express what an inclusive society looks and feels like from their perspective. More importantly, they will have strengthened their capacity for tolerance, acceptance, and intercultural dialogue—skills essential for a diverse and democratic Europe.

This workshop contributes directly to European Youth Goal #3: Inclusive Societies, empowering youth not only to understand inclusion but to actively practice it through creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

OBJECTIVES

  • To explore the meaning of inclusive societies through art-based, experiential learning.
    Participants investigate concepts such as diversity, belonging, representation, and social inclusion using video, performance, and visual art.

  • To promote tolerance, acceptance, and intercultural dialogue among young people.
    Collaborative creation and exchange help foster respect for different identities, backgrounds, and perspectives.

  • To amplify youth voices by using creative media as a form of expression and empowerment.
    Participants learn to communicate personal and collective experiences through artistic processes that strengthen confidence and self-expression.

  • To develop critical thinking around inclusion, stereotypes, and social cohesion.
    Art becomes a lens for analysing how societies include or exclude groups, and for questioning social norms.

  • To strengthen teamwork, communication, and collaborative problem-solving skills.
    Working across artistic mediums encourages cooperation, shared responsibility, and collective decision-making.

  • To support participants in recognising and articulating their learning outcomes through YouthPass.
    Throughout the exchange, participants reflect on personal development linked to the eight Key Competences for Lifelong Learning.
